Networked Constructions

A

n invitation came to us in the Spring of 2012 to contribute to the Couched Constructions Exhibition at the Herron Gallery in Indianapolis. Our installation “Networked Constructions” addressed themes of consumption, connection, and reuse with versions of digitally fabricated couches of found materials. We invited gallery visitors to join a global community of makers by downloading the designs and fabricating versions at local hacker spaces. We sought to demonstrate how making things can enmesh us into a larger material, social, and fabrication network and produce objects that are more deeply embedded into our lives and everything around us.
