n 2009, President Obama formed the Joint Venture For Sustainable Communities that engaged multiple federal agencies. Working with officials from several of these agencies, our Autocatalytic Communities team developed tools that would facilitate communication among policy makers, elected officials and the public. The team conducted Sustainable Communities Workshop for Rep. John Yarmuth’s Louisville constituency, which outlined the agency joint venture’s “Six Livability Principles.”

As a followup to the workshop, our team developed interactive tools to communicate overlaps and gaps of individual HUD, CDC, EPA and DOE funding programs and policies. These interactive tools are designed specifically to enable policymakers to see the interrelationships of funding programs, and to identify opportunities for the joint venture to facilitate sustainable growth in communities nationwide.
