Whole Shop in Akron cut AtFAB acrylic prototypes with their industrial grade laser cutter. We were intrigued with achieving detail and differentiation from a heavy manufacturing operation equipped for mass production jobs in titanium and steel. We are producing 1:6 arrays in Acrylite to demonstrate increments along an infinite growth and transformation path, articulated in AtFAB’s parametric definitions. We were there to help troubleshoot the nearly 200 scaled prototypes by cutting initial test pieces, designed to incorporate every kind of joint that’s found in the objects. The specificity and precision of this job was an extreme case to prove that the simple design of the pieces affords high quality finished products from heavy machinery.
